Glaciers melt water from
Vatnajökull glacier runs to the ocean. Vatnajokull is the largest and most voluminous ice cap in south-east Iceland. It cover about 10% of Iceland’s surface and it is melting at an increased speed. The country loses about 11 billion tons of ice per year. Scientists from the University of Arizona published an article confirming the melting world of Iceland’s glaciers has reduced
pressure on the ground beneath them, causing the land to rebound at a pace of as much as 1.4 inches per year from the earth’s crust.
